Opinion : Kenya’s MOST Beautiful Women and Handsome Men
Recently, Nation Media Group editor Charles Onyango-Obbo posted a tongue-in-cheek list on his Facebook page ranking what he considered the most beautiful African women and “handsomest” African men, as he put it.
Onyango-Obbo excluded women and men from his own native Uganda. But he also didn’t include Kenyans. However, in a lively debate, quite a few Kenyans pitched in, saying Kenya belonged firmly in the top rankings of African beauty.

How Kenya Health Minister STOP Audrey, Andrew Mbugua Sex Change Surgery in KNH
Her operation was scheduled for March 2009. Audrey was already active within the transgender movement in Kenya and was working closely with transgender Kenya initiative that had been formed to address the needs of those silently dealing with GID.
“Somebody suggested that we should do a documentary on my operation and we needed permission to film in KNH. Zawadi Nyong’o, a consultant in the social justice movement, suggested she could get permission from her father, Prof Anyang Nyong’o who was Health minister to film in Kenyatta hospital.”
Says Audrey: “Apparently, the minister called the director of KNH and told him he was aware that a gender change operation was scheduled for the following day and advised him against allowing the operation to proceed. I arrived the following morning ready for my operation and my urologist informed me the operation had been cancelled.”
Audrey was in utter disbelief. Her dream had suddenly short-circuited into shocking disappointed. The journey towards becoming fully a complete woman had come to an abrupt halt.
She has written countless letters to the Health minister before he left office to understand why he issued instructions for the operation to be cancelled with no response. But his instructions opened a new battlefront for GID victims, the war to have the right to an operation.
In addition, Audrey’s experience accidentally revealed the complexity of GID treatment with stunning clarity.
Sex change
She says the medical board brought a new dimension to the issue. She learnt to her dismay that according to the medical code of ethics chapter two, gender re-assignment on demand was not permitted.
That a specialist team must be constituted to evaluate each applicant’s situation to reach a decision if an operation was needed, a condition she believes she met. Her attempt to pierce the veil of the medical board in the last four years has been met with soporific silence.
Audrey now combined the battle for her operation with the fight to have other GID victims have the right to sex change if they wanted. “They took me in circles. First, I was told by the medical board I needed my parents consent because they might sue the hospital. But I was over 18, why would an adult need permission?”

Kenya News : Prezzo now OFFICIALLY a Divorcee
The High Court in Nairobi has allowed a divorce case filed by his wife Daisy Jematia Kiplagat and ordered that the marriage be dissolved.
Daisy filed the case seeking divorce in May 2012 but Prezzo (Jackson Makini) did not defend it. High Court Judge Luka Kimaru granted Daisy’s application and ordered Prezzo to pay a monthly upkeep of Sh50,000 for the baby born in March 2009.
“The petitioner and the respondent have been separated since November 2011. For the above reasons, this court has no option but to annul the marriage,” said Justice Kimaru.
Daisy accused Prezzo of committing adultery and physical abuse on her. The couple solemnised their marriage on December 2008 at Karen Country Lodge. But the couple have lived separately since November 2011.
“It is clear that indeed the marriage between the Petitioner (Daisy) and the respondent ( Prezzo) has irretrievably broken down,” said Judge Kimaru.
The judge said the instances of cruelty cited by Daisy are not conducive for the health of a successful marriage.
Daisy told the court in her evidence that Prezzo had committed adultery with various women and particularly a former model, Joy Wanjohi.
Prezzo had also been verbally abusive causing her mental stress and anxiety. He physically abused her and failed to abide by his financial responsibilities.
Other allegations raised by Daisy against her former husband were that he drinks alcohol heavily and consumes narcotic drugs almost on a daily basis after which he subjects her to verbal and physical abuse.
Prezzo purportedly invited his friends to their matrimonial home where they consumed the drugs and alcohol in front of her and the child, Daisy told the court.

This man thinks it is cool to go for manicures, buying expensive ,feminine perfumes, crying at the slightest opportunity and even competing with women in the beauty department. It is not only totally gross but also idiotic as well. I am not saying that men should not be neat but that doesn’t mean carrying a mirror and staring at your face every 10 minutes.
This is the type of man that cannot fix a sink because he’ll get dirty, a man that will propose to a woman when kneeling down and weeping, a man that cannot drink directly from a tusker bottle because he prefers sipping his beer like it is some horrible poison, a man that cannot mown his lawn because his hands will get blisters, a man who can never own a sword in his bedroom because even
when an unarmed ruffian breaks into his house, he’d rather say prayers rather than dealing with the ruffian man to man, a man who would rather spend 5k to have his car repaired when he could have dealt with the problem, a man who’d never touch Ugali and stew but would rather go out and eat sissy food, …….basically a very irritating feminine man. This man thinks that spending his hours cuddling his girlfriend’s hands is the ultimate mark of a modern man. A man who keeps teddy bears in his bedroom! In fact, when he is making love to his wife/gf, he is very careful lest he ‘hurts’ her.
While I am not very sure how women perceive this man, I am convinced that this man is an idiot. A loser that no woman should waste time with. A man that is making our ancestors turn uncomfortably in their graves. He should be treated with the contempt that he truly deserves.
Real men must have the warrior blood in them; real men must defend their wives, their communities and the nation. But this idiot can never even hurt a fly with all his fragileness.

We married six years ago. That very year, he started cheating on me. After delivering our first-born daughter, I decided to go back to my parents despite being pregnant with my second child. He tried to convince me to go back and I refused. He decided to come with his parents, who, due to the pregnancy, convinced me to go back.
To cut a long story short, he once took the other woman to his mother. Our pastor tried to resolve the issue to no avail. What bothers me is that despite being in a rocky marriage, I decline all other men who approach me.
My husband is now 50 and I am 30. Is the age difference the problem, bearing in mind that the other woman is older than me? Family planning did not work for me and as I write this email, I am carrying another pregnancy.

Kenyan Bachelor Living the High Life : Interesting article on Bachelorhood Lifestyle
They say the best times of one’s life are the college and bachelor years. College years for the obvious reasons; lots of activity, freedom, and access to nearly everything. You can get away with anything, including pulling off the sign post of a bar and grill from the roadside and hanging it from your hostel window. You grow up, make friends, get into fights, and learn the things that matter in life.Bachelorhood is breaking-out time. Life takes shape as you shake off the carelessness of your college days and train your sights on money and the need to stabilise. While Alexander the Great went about trying to conquer the world, a young bachelor, since there is no more world to conquer and needs more time to conquer the office, will have to find an alternative. The reason is simple; a man ought to conquer some place... or something.
The natural place to direct his conquering energies is his cave, the place he lives and calls home, even if it is a bed-sitter on top of a crowded flat or a one-bedroom apartment. This is the place where he invites his friends for post-match banter, the place where he entertains his female friends, the place where his folks can find him for a weekend of village and family talk, the place where he can welcome his mother and father, the place where he rises every morning and goes to sleep every night.
A man aged between the mid-20s and late 30s is a complete man; his character is developed, his style is evident, and his likes and dislikes are easily discernable. In general terms, a bachelor is an unmarried man living independently away from his parents’ home or any other institutional setting. Target acquired, let us zone in on where he lives, shall we?

The 10 Important Qualities that Define if SHE is ‘Wife Material ‘!
Lately my Facebook inbox is swarmed with dating questions that I never thought would ever come up the time I started writing this blog. Apparently there are men out there, who are at the blink of making this life time decision but they simply can’t choose the right girl! There are many reasons for not settling down on one girl but top on the list of all these questions is ‘How can you know she is a wife material?’
I want to demystify this wife material conception but before I delve deep into this debate, I would like to give a disclaimer that; I am neither a relationship counselor, a professional dating consultant or even a pastor but an independent social observer, writer and a critical thinker, who is not afraid to call a spade a spade not a big spoon. Having said this, it has taken me a lot of research to ultimately create these 10 important qualities that can be a basis of defining what a wife material kind of a girl should be like.
This is an opinion that should be recommended by those who find t useful to our Kenyan girls. It is not a masterpiece as parse but an important social yardstick that can be borrowed from time to time by Kenyan Bachelors ready to settle down in marriage.
10 Important Qualities that make a Girl Marriageable
# 1 Beauty
It has been said that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, although many men want to argue that they would prefer a woman with good character to a gorgeous woman, most men do not walk the talk. In fact attractiveness of a woman is the single most important factor that influences the decision of a man. We can debate about this for hours but the best way to settle this debate is to adopt a common stand point on some reasonable limit of attractiveness that a man should go for. Remember this is an innate choice that you may not have voluntary control over. So attractiveness of a woman tops the list of the qualities men use to define a wife material.
#2 Sexual Satisfaction
There is no man in his right mind would like to marry a woman who does not take care of his sexual needs. In fact the foundation of a lasting relationship is built in the bedroom contrary to what other pundits would want us to believe. For some men sexual satisfaction comes first before even attractiveness of the woman. It’s an important consideration since you will be with this woman for the rest of your life. Married life can get boring especially sexual life but with woman who knows how to spruce up sex life; infidelity in married man can be curbed.
# 3 Cooking Skills
Believe me that the way to a man’s heart is through the stomach; there is no sane man out there who wants to get married to a woman who can only cook eggs. Bring up a family requires a woman who can cook right for her husband and kids. There is absolutely no shortcut for this LADIES! You simply have to be good in the kitchen lest you are not getting anywhere in marriage.
# 4 Mothering Ability
Nothing disturbs young Kenyan man than the sight of a poor mother who won’t breast feed their kids effectively, who won’t train their kids right manners, who will always be away from home, who is the village gossip monger…such a woman does not deserve a good husband. The way a woman handles kids before she is even married can tell the kind of a woman she will be when married with kids. Look out for the way she treats her nephews, nieces even the street children she comes across in town. How tolerant is she? She screams at kids??? …HELL NO!!!! She is not a wife material!
# 5 Alcohol and Drug Related Problems
It has become a norm in our society for women to drink till the wee hours and to come home drunk only to meet dad and kids dead asleep. This is some of the challenges that our society is warming up to but the choice of wife should be dependent on her relationship with alcohol and other related drugs. It looks cool to dance the night away with a girl you are dating or a fiancé but a wife who can’t control her drinking habits is a liability to you and the society, avoid her like plague. A wife material should be a teetollers or a woman who knows how to drink responsibility!
# 6 Achievements and Ambitions
Although this is not a strong point ….it has ended up on this list as one of the defining factors for a wife material. In fact your woman should have some little achievements that earn her some social status. I don’t mean academic achievements only but even the little social achievements like she is the choir master of your local church. That is a good achievement that shows she will offer good leadership to your kids. She can be the treasurer of her ‘chama’ this shows she is a trustworthy person …
# 7 Possess some Social and Life Skills Meet a woman who is overly gorgeous but there are simple things she can’t do like; run, ride a bike, drive, swim or even make new friends…when I come across such a woman I scream ‘blonde ‘. If you want to have the most difficult time in your marriage go for this blonde girl. This is the kind of a woman who will scream to wake up your neighbors when an ant finds its way into your kitchen. Quite embarrassing that she can’t simply pick that DEAD ant, cockroach and toss it into the dustbin. There are many women of this nature in Nairobi. Beware GENTELMEN! |

# 8 Career Women make Worst Mother
The writing is on the wall, if she values her career more than she values her family, the priorities are not right and she does not qualify to be a wife material. A good wife should put her family first before her career. This is the reason why many men argue that teachers in Kenya make the best wives. They are indeed the best considering they have ample time with their family. I would propose you marry one and you will not be lost. Consider her career before you decide on whether you will settle down with her.
# 9 Religion and Personal Beliefs
Religion may be an important consideration for those people who don’t want to bring up kids who are confused and can’t tell which religion they belong to. It’s important you share religion values or ideologies for you to have a successful marriage. Although inter-religion marriages are there and some are successful if not all; it is important you define the way you will bring up your kids especially when you come from different religions. It is a concern you simply cannot wish away!
# 10 Her Personality
Her personality is an important consideration especially how she handles difficult times; whether financial, infidelity or health. A friend of mine one day said that a wife material is that woman who can stand with you to rebuke the ‘DEVIL’ who made you CHEAT on her! Quite a rare kind of a woman to find, you will in your marriage life as a man come across serious temptations to cheat, whether you give in or not is not the debate but the big question is ‘ Can she forgive you when you cheat ?’
Just as a manufacturer of a given electronic gives you some precautions ‘Don’t open this …blah blah blah …when plugged in a power socket! You risk an electric shock! ‘A good wife material girl should also react positively to your disclaimer ‘When I cheat one day …will you forgive me? ‘By design men are more inclined to cheat than Women!

Story of Man in Nyeri Who Defiled a Hen that Later Died : Nyeri 'Bird' Manners
The man was said to have lured the chicken with maize and tied the mouth, then defiling it for a while before he was caught.
Unfortunately,the chicken died after it was brought to the police station as evidence but the Nyeri acting OCPD Joseph Muika says the hen will be taken to a veterinary clinic for a postmortem.
The man who showed no sign of remorse insisted that the chicken was his and had the right to do whatever he wished with it.
He is in police custody waiting to be arraigned
